Jammu and Kashmir finalizes major preparations for International Day of Yoga 2026

SRINAGAR, June 16 — Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired a high-level review meeting today to finalize preparations for the upcoming International Day of Yoga 2026, scheduled for June 21 under the theme Yoga for Healthy Ageing.

The meeting brought together administrative secretaries from health, youth services, social welfare, school education, transport, and rural development, alongside divisional commissioners and district police chiefs to evaluate venue identification, logistics, and crowd mobilization strategies. Dulloo instructed officials to leverage the event to showcase the natural beauty and tourism potential of Jammu and Kashmir by organizing prominent yoga sessions at iconic scenic destinations across the region.

The administration has appointed the Directorate of Ayush as the nodal agency to manage the coordination between various departments for events at the union territory, district, and grassroots levels. To facilitate the mass demonstrations, trained yoga instructors from the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga in New Delhi will be deployed across the region.

Additionally, all 642 Ayush health facilities in Jammu and Kashmir are being registered on the central government’s Yoga Sangam Portal to track and support widespread public involvement during the synchronized national protocol.A massive union territory-level flagship event is set to take place at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre in Srinagar, where between 4,000 and 5,000 participants are expected to assemble.

Ahead of the main event, health officials confirmed that nearly 2,000 prelude activities have already engaged over 1.31 lakh people through community outreach, youth initiatives in schools, and environmental yoga sessions.

The Chief Secretary concluded the meeting by calling for a unified government approach and close inter-departmental coordination to maximize public participation and successfully establish wellness as a community-driven movement across the region.
