Kathua police intensify security measures and review crime control strategies ahead of annual Shri Amarnath pilgrimage

KATHUA, June 11 — Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, Shridhar Patil, accompanied by SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma and other senior officials, chaired a comprehensive review meeting at the District Police Lines in Kathua today.

The high-level session focused heavily on evaluating regional crime control measures, tracking anti-narcotics operations under the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan, and assessing security preparedness for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026.

During the meeting, the senior leadership reviewed the progress made against drug trafficking networks, examining recent arrests under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, property demolitions targeting drug syndicates, the issuance of lookout notices, and ongoing efforts to track down long-term absconders.

Officers received strict instructions to strengthen their investigative methodologies to improve overall conviction rates through the professional and timely disposal of pending cases.Emphasizing the importance of proactive preventive policing, the leadership directed station house officers and beat officers to optimize the local beat system to foster greater public engagement and trust within neighborhoods.

The review also covered the strict implementation of the Motor Vehicles Act, investigations into local theft cases, checking procedures at nakas, and the integration of digital tools including NATGRID, CCTNS, and E-Summons to streamline daily police operations.

Turning to the security logistics for the 2026 pilgrimage, the police chief stressed the need for strategic manpower deployment and robust security grids to guarantee a safe and smooth journey for all devotees.

Officers were directed to significantly enhance closed-circuit television surveillance along transit routes, optimize the operational functioning of Village Defence Guards, and maintain the highest standards of professional accountability.

The range police reiterated their absolute commitment to maintaining public safety, reducing regional crime rates, and ensuring the incident-free conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
