CBI arrests West Central Railway deputy chief engineer for accepting one lakh bribe in Madhya Pradesh
SAGAR, June 5, 2026 :- The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Deputy Chief Engineer-II (Construction) of the West Central Railway in connection with a corruption and bribery case.
According to the press release the central agency registered the case following a formal complaint alleging that the senior railway official had demanded an undue advantage of 1,00,000 rupees from a contractor.
The illegal gratification was reportedly demanded in exchange for releasing a security deposit, processing the payment of pending bills, and clearing price variation dues that totaled approximately 1 crore rupees related to ongoing contract work.
Following the complaint, the investigative agency laid a strategic trap in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, where they caught the accused official red-handed while he was demanding and accepting the bribe money from the complainant.
A subsequent law enforcement search of the guest house room occupied by the accused yielded 62,000 rupees in unaccounted cash. Furthermore, a detailed search conducted at his residential property led to the recovery of several incriminating documents detailing significant investments in real estate.The arrested railway official is scheduled to be produced before the competent court in Jabalpur today for further legal custody.
The investigative agency noted that a comprehensive probe into the official’s financial dealings and the bribery network is currently continuing.
