Punjab Police bust fake currency module and recover counterfeit notes worth lakhs in Malerkotla
MALERKOTLA, May 18, 2026In a major breakthrough against Fake Indian Currency Notes, the Counter Intelligence Patiala unit in Malerkotla busted a fake currency module, leading to the apprehension of four accused individuals.
During the operation, the police recovered counterfeit currency notes worth 5.50 lakh rupees, all in 500-rupee denominations.Preliminary investigation reveals that one of the arrested accused has prior involvement in a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
A First Information Report has been registered at the Himmatana Police Station in Malerkotla under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and a further investigation is currently underway to establish both the forward and backward linkages of this criminal network.
