Samba Police Seize Vehicle Transporting Stolen Khair Wood Near Sumb

SAMBA, MAY 06: Samba Police successfully intercepted a vehicle loaded with stolen Khair wooden logs today within the jurisdiction of Police Station Samba. Acting on credible information regarding the illegal transportation of forest produce, a team from the Goran Police Post established a checkpoint near Sumb.

During the operation, officers intercepted a Mahindra Load Carrier, registration number JK21B-1746, which was traveling from Khabal toward Samba. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to be carrying a significant consignment of Khair wood without any valid permits or legal authorization from the Forest Department.

Following the discovery, the police team seized both the vehicle and the illicit timber on the spot. Authorities confirmed that the logs had been stolen and were being moved in violation of established environmental and transport laws.

A formal case has been registered under FIR No. 108/2026 at Police Station Samba, citing Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 26 of the Indian Forest Act.

An investigation has been launched to identify the individuals involved in the theft and to dismantle the local network involved in the illegal trade of protected timber.
