Rusted Mortar Shell Safely Destroyed in Arnia Sector Near Jammu Border
JAMMU, MAY 06: A potentially dangerous unexploded mortar shell was safely destroyed today by the Bomb Disposal Squad in the Treva village area of the Arnia sector.
The rusted shell was initially spotted by locals in the open fields near BOP Vikrant, prompting an immediate report to the Incharge of the Border Police Post Treva. Recognizing the potential risk to the community, police and security agencies launched a swift coordinated response to secure the site and mitigate the threat.
Upon receiving the information, a team led by Chandan Singh, accompanied by the Bomb Disposal Squad from PCR Jammu, arrived at the location to assess the condition of the ordnance.
Given its unstable and rusted state, the experts decided to destroy the shell in situ to avoid any risks associated with transport. The controlled explosion was carried out in the presence of Border Security Force officers and local police officials, following strict Standard Operating Procedures to ensure the safety of the surrounding agricultural land and nearby residents.The successful operation highlights the high level of alertness maintained by security forces in the border zones of Jammu.
Authorities praised the timely reporting by the village community and the rapid intervention by the specialized units, which averted any potential danger to the public.
