Jammu Srinagar Vande Bharat Express Sees High Passenger Turnout in First Two Days

JAMMU, May 4 — The newly launched Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express has received an enthusiastic reception from the public, with official data showing that 8,925 passengers utilized the service during its first two days of operation.

On the inaugural day, approximately 3,925 commuters boarded the semi-high-speed train, a number that grew to over 5,000 passengers by the second day on May 3. This surge in ridership highlights the growing demand for efficient rail connectivity between the two major cities of the union territory.

The rail service is quickly becoming a preferred choice for travelers due to its affordability compared to regional air travel. While airfares between Jammu and Srinagar typically range from 4,000 to 6,000 rupees, the Vande Bharat ticket is priced at 730 rupees, excluding catering.

Beyond the cost savings, the train offers a significant time advantage over road travel, completing the journey in approximately four hours and 45 minutes. Railway officials noted that the combination of competitive pricing and reduced travel time is proving highly attractive to tourists and local residents alike.

Equipped with modern amenities such as upgraded interiors and GPS-based passenger information systems, the train aims to provide a premium travel experience. To cater to local tastes, IRCTC has introduced a specialized vegetarian Kashmiri menu for passengers.

Travelers have the flexibility to opt out of meals during booking to reduce their fare or purchase food onboard based on availability.

With occupancy levels rising steadily, officials are confident that the service will continue to boost regional tourism and provide a reliable, comfortable alternative for the Jammu-Srinagar corridor.
