Army launches rescue operation after boat capsizes in Bargi Dam

JABALPUR, May 1, 2026 — Indian Army personnel launched an immediate search and rescue operation following a tragic boating accident at the Bargi Dam reservoir near Khamariya Island.

The incident occurred on April 30 when a cruise boat carrying tourists capsized due to sudden strong winds and adverse weather conditions.

Working in close coordination with civil administration, the Madhya Bharat Area initiated humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts alongside teams from the National and State Disaster Response Forces.

A specialized team consisting of one Junior Commissioned Officer and 13 soldiers, including expert divers from the Shatrujeet Brigade, was mobilized by air to reach the site. Search operations commenced at first light, leading to the recovery of two deceased victims despite the challenging environmental conditions at the reservoir.

Military Hospital Jabalpur has been providing essential medical support and care for the survivors evacuated from the scene.The Indian Army expressed its solidarity with the affected families during this difficult time.

While search efforts continue for individuals still reported missing, officials extended their deepest condolences to the bereaved. Military and civil teams remain on-site to navigate the technical difficulties of the underwater search and ensure a swift conclusion to the recovery mission.
