Jal Shakti Minister Javed Ahmed Rana calls for long term strategy to solve water scarcity in Jammu Kandi areas
JAMMU, APRIL 22, 2026:-Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, has underscored the urgent need for a comprehensive and result-oriented strategy to address the escalating water scarcity challenges across the Kandi regions.
Speaking during an interaction with public delegations at the Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust, the Minister highlighted that addressing water shortages requires a coordinated approach involving infrastructure development and community participation.
He specifically advocated for the construction of water harvesting tanks throughout Kandi belts to capture and utilize rainwater, which would serve as a vital local resource during dry spells and decrease reliance on distant supply networks.
The Minister directed field officers to intensify ground-level monitoring to identify and repair leakages within the existing supply infrastructure to ensure that available water reaches the end users effectively.
In response to specific grievances from areas such as Bathindi and Chowadhi, Rana ordered the implementation of alternate-day water supply schedules to ensure equitable distribution and held officials accountable for the regularity of their monitoring reports.
While reviewing ongoing projects, he was informed that six new borewells are nearing completion in the Bathindi area to provide immediate relief.
Additionally, the Minister emphasized the importance of a Tribal Museum at the Trust to preserve regional heritage, concluding that sustainable water management must be supported by behavioral changes and inter-departmental cooperation.
