SRINAGAR, April 19, 2026:- Security agencies have significantly tightened surveillance across major tourist destinations in Kashmir as the region approaches the first anniversary of the tragic Pahalgam terror attack.

On April 22 last year, 25 tourists and a local service provider were killed during an assault by Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists at the Baisaran meadow.

In preparation for the anniversary, Kashmir Inspector General of Police (IGP) V K Birdi recently chaired a high-level security meeting at PCR Kashmir, involving the CRPF, BSF, and other vital agencies, to finalize a foolproof security plan aimed at preventing any subversive activities.

These measures are designed to maintain the current momentum of the tourism sector, which has seen a resilient recovery after the 2025 attack led to temporary closures and security audits of nearly 50 local spots.

To bolster safety and restore visitor confidence, authorities have introduced a sophisticated QR code-based identification system for all tourism service providers in Pahalgam, including pony-ride operators and vendors.

Each individual is now subject to rigorous police verification and antecedent checks before receiving a unique digital code. When scanned by tourists, this QR code reveals the provider’s essential details, such as their name, registration status, and police verification standing.

By integrating technology with ground-level area domination and vigilance at vulnerable installations, security forces aim to ensure that the iconic meadows of ‘Mini Switzerland’ remain a safe and buzzing hub for travelers during this sensitive period.
