Relief Commissioner Reviews NFSA Integration of Migrant Ration Cards; 50,000 Families to Benefit from National Database Shift

JAMMU, April 15, 2026:- In a major administrative push to streamline welfare benefits for displaced populations, the Relief & Rehabilitation Commissioner (M), Dr. Arvind Karwani, chaired a high-level meeting today to review the integration of Kashmiri and Jammu migrant ration cards into the National Food Security Act (NFSA) database.

This transition, facilitated by the newly launched PDS portal by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, aims to bring approximately 50,000 migrant families into the national fold. By digitizing these records and aligning them with NFSA standards, the government is effectively removing long-standing hurdles, allowing beneficiaries to seamlessly access critical social sector schemes such as old age pensions, student scholarships, and marriage assistance.

Furthermore, the integration successfully addresses previous difficulties migrants faced in availing benefits under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, ensuring universal healthcare access for the community.During the session, Dr. Karwani also assessed the distribution arrangements for free ration under the Special Relief Ration Scheme, as per the recent Government Order No. 15-JK(FCS&CA) of 2026.

He clarified that the existing scale of ration for those in the “Relief Category” will remain unchanged, regardless of new categorizations or procedural norms.

To ensure no one is left behind, the Commissioner directed officials to launch door-to-door campaigns for correcting typographical errors in ration cards and urged the organization of regular outreach camps.

Attended by Deputy Commissioners, Zonal Officers, and representatives from various line departments, the meeting concluded with a strict mandate for time-bound completion of the database integration to ensure an uninterrupted supply of essential commodities and the smooth extension of all government welfare initiatives to the migrant population.
