SPO Injured in Accidental Fire at SBI Branch in Baramulla; Police Launch Investigation

Baramulla, January 15, 2026: A Special Police Officer (SPO) sustained injuries on Thursday after a security guard’s weapon discharged accidentally at a State Bank of India (SBI) branch.

The victim, identified as Mehmooda Begum, was on duty when a 12-bore rifle belonging to a bank security guard went off unexpectedly, resulting in a bullet wound to her ear.

Following the incident, the injured SPO was immediately provided with first aid and subsequently referred to the Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla for specialized medical treatment. Her condition is reportedly being monitored by doctors.

Police have officially taken cognizance of the accidental discharge and have initiated a formal investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to the weapon’s firing.
