Mehbooba Mufti Urges MEA to Evacuate Indian Students Stranded in Iran Amid Rising Tensions
Srinagar, January 15, 2026: Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti expressed grave concern today over the safety of thousands of Indian students, including a significant number from Kashmir, currently stranded in Iran.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Mufti highlighted the “volatile situation” in the region, noting that the escalating instability has triggered profound fear and anxiety among the students and their families.
The PDP leader issued an urgent appeal to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), calling for immediate government intervention to ensure the students’ security and facilitate their safe return to India.
Describing the plight of “anguished parents” who are desperately worried about their children’s wellbeing, Mufti emphasized the need for a swift evacuation strategy as the geopolitical climate in the area remains unpredictable.
