Jammu Police Seize 60 Kg of Poppy Straw on NH-44: Major Drug Trafficking Attempt Foiled
JHAJJARKOTLI, JAMMU January 13,2026 — In a significant blow to the narcotics trade, the Jammu (Rural) Police successfully intercepted a major drug shipment on National Highway 44 (NH-44) today.
Acting on specific intelligence, a specialized team from the Jhajjarkotli Police Station, led by SHO Inspector Vikas Dogra, established a strategic checkpoint (naka) to intercept a truck (Registration No. JK02BK-4751) traveling from Kashmir toward Jammu.
During a thorough search of the vehicle, officers recovered approximately 60 kg of poppy straw, which had been meticulously concealed to evade detection.
The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Harbhajan Singh, a resident of Hoshiarpur, Punjab, while the truck is reportedly owned by Gurmeet Singh of R.S. Pura, Jammu.
Following the recovery, the authorities officially registered FIR No. 08/2026 under Sections 8, 15, and 29 of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act at the Jhajjarkotli Police Station.
An intensive investigation is currently underway to uncover the broader network behind this smuggling attempt.This operation underscores the unwavering commitment of the Jammu (Rural) Police to eradicate the drug menace and disrupt the supply chains of traffickers in the region.
