Stalin congratulates Vijay on becoming Chief Minister and addresses state debt claims
CHENNAI, May 10, 2026:- Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President MK Stalin extended his heartfelt congratulations to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay on his swearing-in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
In a statement shared on social media, Stalin welcomed the initial announcements signed by the new Chief Minister but offered immediate advice regarding state governance.
He urged the new administration not to begin its tenure by claiming a lack of funds, emphasizing that public welfare requires both the will to give and administrative capability rather than just financial availability.
Stalin defended the previous DMK government’s record, noting that they successfully implemented numerous welfare schemes despite facing challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, major floods, and alleged lack of cooperation from the central government. Responding to Vijay’s remarks about inheriting a debt of 10 lakh crore and an empty treasury, Stalin clarified that the state’s debt remains within the permitted limits.
He pointed out that the financial status of Tamil Nadu was made clear in the February budget, which was public knowledge before Vijay made his campaign promises to the voters. The DMK leader cautioned the new Chief Minister against misleading the public who voted for him.
He reminded Vijay of his campaign stance of only promising what is practical, noting that as he enters government administration, he will need to learn the intricacies of fulfilling those promises.
Stalin concluded by expressing hope that the new government would find the means to deliver on its commitments and wished for the continued developmental journey of Tamil Nadu under the new leadership.
