Amritsar police dismantle cross border arms smuggling module and arrest two with seven pistols
AMRITSAR, July 1, 2026:- The Amritsar Commissionerate Police have dismantled a cross-border illegal arms smuggling module with the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of seven sophisticated pistols along with 40 live cartridges.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the apprehended suspects were utilizing social media applications to maintain contact with foreign-based smugglers. Through these digital platforms, they coordinated the receipt of illegal weapon consignments via cross-border routes, which were intended for further supply to various criminal elements.Following the operation, a First Information Report has been registered at the Sultanwind police station in Amritsar.
Law enforcement agencies are conducting further investigations to establish both backward and forward linkages, aiming to map out the entire illegal arms supply chain and identify other associates involved in the network. The Punjab Police have reiterated their strict commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against organized crime, illegal weapons trafficking, and cross-border criminal syndicates.
