Ladakh Greening Initiative: LG’s Barren Land Rejuvenation Project Shows Success

LEH, LADAKH JULY 01,2026— A pioneering environmental initiative launched by the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh to rejuvenate and revitalize the region’s barren lands is yielding highly positive results. Under the direct guidance of the Lieutenant Governor, Vinai Kumar Saxena, an extensive seed-sprinkling drive was conducted on May 13 across the arid terrains surrounding the Mahey–Raldho Irrigation Canal, utilizing high-quality alfalfa seeds.

In a significant ecological milestone for the cold desert ecosystem, those seeds have now germinated abundantly, transforming the once-barren landscape with vibrant, flourishing sprouts. This successful growth marks a major step forward in expanding sustainable vegetation cover and combating desertification in the high-altitude region. Reflecting the Lieutenant Governor’s long-term vision for environmental regeneration and ecological balance, the project is expected to drastically improve soil health, boost local fodder availability for livestock, and ultimately enhance the overall quality of life for remote Ladakhi communities.
