IGP Kashmir Conducts Comprehensive Security Review at Pahalgam for Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026

PAHALGAM, JULY 01, 2026 — As part of the extensive security preparations for the forthcoming Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir V.K. Birdi conducted a comprehensive visit to Pahalgam to review security arrangements along the pilgrimage route and assess the operational preparedness of the security grid. During his visit, the IGP inspected the X-ray Screening Point to evaluate passenger and baggage screening mechanisms, emphasizing the critical importance of meticulous screening, seamless inter-agency coordination, and strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure a safe and hassle-free journey for devotees.

Additionally, the IGP visited the Nunwan Base Camp to undertake a detailed assessment of the overall security architecture, deployment plans, surveillance mechanisms, access control measures, and emergency response readiness. Interacting with the ground-deployed personnel, V.K. Birdi appreciated their dedication and professionalism before directing officers to maintain a high level of alertness and strengthen inter-agency coordination. He stressed the need for proactive policing, continuous monitoring, and swift contingency responses to facilitate a smooth, peaceful, and incident-free annual pilgrimage. The high-level inspection, which is part of an ongoing series of security reviews ahead of the Yatra’s commencement, was attended by DIG South Kashmir Range Javid Iqbal Matoo, DIG Yatra Sameer Sharma, SSP Anantnag Amod Ashok Nagpure, and other senior officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
