Lieutenant General Mohit Malhotra takes charge of South Western Command
NEW DELHI, July 1, 2026:- Lieutenant General Mohit Malhotra has assumed the appointment of General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the South Western Command. Commissioned into the 47 Armoured Regiment in June 1989, he brings over 37 years of distinguished service across command, staff, and instructional roles. Prior to taking over the Jaipur-based command, he served as the Chief of Staff at Headquarters Eastern Command, where he significantly contributed to operational preparedness and institutional cohesion.
The General Officer has extensive command experience in demanding operational environments, including the Siachen Glacier, an Armoured Regiment, an Independent Armoured Brigade, an Armoured Division, and the Desert Corps. These roles have given him deep expertise in operational planning and multi-domain operations. His extensive profile also includes key staff appointments covering military intelligence, operational logistics, personnel management, technology absorption, and strategic communications.
Recognized as a scholar-soldier, Lieutenant General Malhotra holds two master’s degrees in defence studies, including one from Kings College, London, alongside two M Phil degrees in political science and defence and strategic studies. He has topped nearly all the military courses he attended and graduated from the Advanced Command and Staff Course in the United Kingdom, the Higher Air Command Course, and the National Defence College.
For his distinguished service, he has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Sena Medal, along with multiple commendations from Army Commanders and the Chief of Army Staff.
