Light Rain and Thunderstorms Predicted Across Jammu and Kashmir Through May 4
SRINAGAR, May 3, 2026 — The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has issued a weather forecast predicting generally cloudy skies and intermittent spells of light to moderate rain or thundershowers across most parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the next 48 hours.
Residents should expect localized weather disruptions, including thunder, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours of May 3 and 4.
While the intensity is expected to decrease by May 5 with only scattered showers, generally dry weather is anticipated to return from May 6 through May 12, though brief isolated afternoon showers remain possible.In response to these conditions, authorities have issued a safety advisory urging the public to take necessary precautions during periods of lightning and high winds.
Boating and shikara activities on local waterways should be suspended during the afternoon and evening hours through May 4 to ensure passenger safety. Additionally, farmers are advised to halt all agricultural operations until May 5.
Residents are further encouraged to stay indoors during active thunderstorms and maintain a safe distance from loose structures, electric poles, and power lines to avoid potential hazards.
