Kulgam Police Arrest Four Drug Peddlers and Destroy Illicit Poppy Cultivation in Major Crackdown

KULGAM, MAY 15, 2026 :- Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan, the Kulgam police achieved significant success by apprehending four drug peddlers and destroying illicit poppy cultivation in multiple narco operations launched across the district.
During special checkpoint checking at Naibasti Qaimoh, a police party apprehended Zahid Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Gufbal Qaimoh, and recovered five grams of heroin from his possession.
In a separate operation at Waripora, a police party from the DH Pora police station intercepted a vehicle and recovered two grams of heroin from the driver, Arshid Ahmad Lone, a resident of Waripora, leading to his arrest and the seizure of the vehicle.
Furthermore, a police party from the Mirbazar police post apprehended Mohd Sadam, a resident of Bhawana, Delhi, during checkpoint checking at Amanpora and recovered 132.7 grams of charas powder from his possession.
Similarly, the Kulgam police station staff apprehended Adil Nisar, a resident of Nanibugh, during checking at Tehsil Park Kulgam, recovering 579.3 grams of ganja and 2.4 grams of heroin.
In another major operation targeting cultivation, a police team from the Devsar police station acted on credible information regarding illegal poppy cultivation at Nowpora and destroyed the illicit crop on the spot on land belonging to Shahnawaz Ahmad Shan.
Following these operations, multiple cases have been registered under the NDPS Act at the Qaimoh, DH Pora, Qazigund, Kulgam, and Devsar police stations, and detailed investigations have been initiated.
