Vistadome Special train operations in Jammu and Kashmir curtailed for Shri Amarnath Yatra

JAMMU, June 30: The Northern Railway Jammu division has temporarily restricted the operations of the Vistadome Special train ahead of the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage.

The specialized service is now scheduled to operate exclusively between the Banihal and Budgam stations from July 1 to August 31, or until further official directives are issued. This decision modifies the route of train numbers 04688 and 04687, which had previously seen their services extended to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station in February this year to enhance connectivity and passenger experiences across the region.

First launched in October 2023, the premium Vistadome train service in Kashmir is highly popular for its specialized coaches featuring 360-degree rotating seats, expansive glass windows, and glass roofs designed to offer passengers panoramic views of the scenic valley.

While a spokesperson for the Jammu railway division confirmed the route curtailment without specifying a direct reason, railway officials noted that the temporary service restriction follows a direct recommendation from regional security agencies.

The security measure is part of the broader arrangements to guarantee the smooth and secure conduct of the annual pilgrimage, which begins on July 3 and concludes on August 28.
