CRPF Strengthens Security Grid for Amarnath Yatra 2026, Deploys Special Mountain Rescue Team on Baltal Route

SRINAGAR JUNE 30, 2026 :- The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), in close coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, has put in place comprehensive security arrangements for the smooth and safe conduct of the Amarnath Yatra 2026. As part of its multi-layered preparedness, the force has also readied a specialised Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) to provide emergency assistance to pilgrims undertaking the pilgrimage through the Baltal route.
CRPF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) North Zone and Nodal Officer for the Yatra Sudhir Kumar said that a 30-member Mountain Rescue Team has been trained and equipped to respond swiftly to emergencies in the challenging high-altitude terrain of the Baltal axis. The team will be strategically deployed along the route to assist pilgrims facing medical emergencies, exhaustion, injuries, or adverse weather conditions.
The rescue team has been equipped with oxygen cylinders, portable stretchers, ropes, emergency medicines, drinking water and other essential rescue equipment to ensure immediate assistance to devotees during the pilgrimage.The MRT will also work in coordination with other relief and rescue agencies in the event of landslides, flash floods, or any other natural calamity.
Kumar said the CRPF’s security deployment covers road-opening Party (ROP) convoy protection for pilgrims travelling from Jammu, security at base camps, accommodation centres and key locations along the pilgrimage route. CRPF remains committed to ensuring a secure environment for devotees visiting the holy cave shrine.
The enhanced security and rescue measures underscore the commitment of the CRPF and the Jammu and Kashmir Police to facilitate a safe, peaceful and successful Amarnath Yatra 2026, enabling thousands of pilgrims from across the country to undertake the sacred journey with confidence.
