Amarnath Yatra 2026 Traffic Management Plan Finalized by Jammu and Kashmir Police

SRINAGAR, JUNE 30: Inspector General of Police Traffic Jammu and Kashmir, M. Suleman Choudhary, chaired a comprehensive review meeting today to assess and finalize traffic management arrangements for the smooth, safe, and seamless movement of Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims along the Kashmir axis.

The meeting focused on establishing strong coordination among various security and administrative wings to prevent congestion and ensure the safety of the pilgrims throughout the annual pilgrimage.The high-level meeting was attended by DIG South Kashmir Range, Javed Iqbal Matoo, DIG CRPF Anantnag, SSP Kulgam, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, SSP Traffic National Highway Ramban, SP Headquarters Anantnag, SP NHW Qazigund, along with other senior officers from the Civil Police, CRPF, Traffic Police, and the district administrations of Anantnag and Kulgam.

The participants reviewed the deployment strategies and logistical requirements needed to handle the heavy influx of vehicles on the national highway and connected routes.During the session, officials undertook a detailed review of the traffic management plan, putting special emphasis on ensuring close coordination and effective synergy among all stakeholder agencies for the uninterrupted movement of Yatra convoys.

The implementation and strict adherence to the notified convoy cut-off timings were discussed at length, and the Inspector General directed all officers to ensure meticulous enforcement of these schedules without any exception to maintain security protocols.

The Inspector General stressed the importance of seamless inter-agency coordination, real-time information sharing, prompt clearance of traffic bottlenecks, and effective regulation of civilian traffic to facilitate hassle-free movement. He also emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of road conditions, swift response to emergencies, and efficient deployment of police personnel at all vulnerable and congestion-prone locations along the route.

Officers received instructions to maintain close liaison with the district administration, CRPF, road maintenance agencies, and other concerned departments to ensure an immediate response to any unforeseen situation. Special emphasis was laid on the effective dissemination of traffic advisories, regulation of stranded vehicles whenever required, and minimizing inconvenience to the general public while prioritizing the Yatra convoy movement.

The Inspector General Traffic reiterated that the safety and convenience of the pilgrims remain the foremost priority for the administration. He directed all officers to work in close coordination, maintain high standards of professionalism, and ensure flawless execution of the traffic management plan throughout the entire pilgrimage period.
