Jammu Officials Visit Flood-Hit Rajouri to Review Relief Operations and Disaster Preparedness

RAJOURI, JULY 20 (2026): Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti conducted an extensive ground assessment of the flood-affected Bella area in Rajouri following recent flash floods. During their visit, the high-level duo ordered field functionaries to fast-track critical restoration works, prioritizing road clearance and the immediate reinstatement of essential services to bring normalcy back to the region. They also inspected the temporary Relief and Rehabilitation Centre set up at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Rajouri. Interacting with displaced residents and nodal officers, the Divisional Commissioner assured the affected families of unwavering government support and strictly instructed the district administration to maintain seamless access to safe shelter, food, clean drinking water, medical care, and clothing.

Following the site inspection, the Div Com and IGP chaired a comprehensive review meeting with local authorities—including Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma and SSP Gaurav Sikarwar—to evaluate disaster preparedness and inter-departmental response strategies. The administration was directed to map out vulnerable flood-prone hotspots for preemptive evacuations and utilize public address systems and sirens to warn citizens of rising water levels. Furthermore, structural directives were issued across departments: the Power Development Department was tasked with rapid grid restoration, the Irrigation and Flood Control Department was ordered to keep machinery on standby while continuously monitoring water gauging systems, and the Chief Medical Officer was mandated to deploy round-the-clock medical staff, medicines, and ambulances at the block level. Emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach to delays, the Divisional Commissioner placed all departments on high alert to ensure a swift, coordinated response to safeguard lives and mitigate further flash flood impacts.
