REASI, July 21, 2026 — Heavy and persistent rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir forced authorities to open all gates of the Salal Dam in Reasi district on Tuesday morning to release excess water and regulate the rising reservoir levels.
The continuous downpour over the past several hours significantly spiked the inflow into the Chenab River, causing water levels downstream to surge rapidly. In response, local administration and police have issued urgent public advisories across low-lying areas and neighboring districts like Rajouri, urging residents to remain vigilant, stay indoors, and avoid venturing near rivers, streams, or flood-prone bridges.
With risks of flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging heightened throughout the region, officials are closely monitoring weather conditions and emergency services remain on high alert to respond to any critical situations.
