DIG Udhampur–Reasi Range Reviews Preparedness Amid Inclement Weather Conditions; Issues Directions for Coordinated Response

UDHAMPUR, July 20, 2026 — In light of prevailing inclement weather, Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Udhampur–Reasi Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, chaired a comprehensive virtual review meeting today to assess preparedness and response measures across the Udhampur and Reasi districts. The meeting brought together senior leadership, including district SSPs, CAPF and JKAP IR commandants, additional SPs, SDPOs, and representatives from the NDRF, SDRF, Traffic Police, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and executive engineers from the PWD and PMGSY. With a primary focus on ensuring public safety and maintaining essential services, the collaborative session served to align all administrative, police, and disaster response wings for a unified, efficient strategy during adverse weather conditions.

During the session, Sharma evaluated the current weather patterns and instructed all participating agencies to maintain peak operational readiness and seamless communication. Key directives issued included keeping all control rooms fully functional round-the-clock, placing Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and specialized rescue equipment on immediate standby, and intensifying patrols around flood and landslide-prone zones. Additionally, personnel will be strategically deployed along critical road stretches, bridges, and vulnerable nallahs to regulate traffic and prevent accidents. To ensure rapid restoration of connectivity, heavy machinery such as JCBs and excavators will be pre-positioned at strategic locations in coordination with NHAI, PWD, and PMGSY. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment from all departments to work proactively, distribute timely public advisories, and ensure a prompt, professional response to any weather-related incident.
