Doda Landslide: SDRF Rescues Passengers and Issues Critical Monsoon Safety Advisory

DODA, July 20, 2026 — The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) successfully executed a high-stakes rescue operation today following a severe road incident triggered by heavy rainfall near Riggi Nallah in the Assar–Baggar area of District Doda. At approximately 09:45 AM, continuous downpours and unstable hill slopes caused a sudden rockfall that struck multiple vehicles traveling from Jammu to Doda, including a passenger bus (JK02BA487) and a Maruti Ertiga (JK17A-8883). An SDRF rescue team from the Doda component was immediately mobilized to the site. Working under hazardous weather conditions and in close coordination with the District Administration, local police, and other regional stakeholders, the personnel evacuated six injured individuals—who were promptly shifted to GMC Doda for treatment—and recovered two bodies from the damaged vehicles.

In response to the volatile weather and ongoing monsoon risks, the SDRF 2nd Battalion Jammu, alongside the SDRF/Civil Defence Component Udhampur, has intensified its public safety awareness campaigns. Aligning with the latest weather advisories from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), authorities are strongly urging the general public and Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims to remain highly vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel through vulnerable terrains, and strictly stay away from rivers, nallahs, streams, and waterlogged drains where water levels can rise unpredictably.

• DO: Monitor official IMD forecasts, prepare an emergency kit (with water, dry food, and first-aid supplies), protect vital documents in waterproof covers, and cooperate immediately with rescue agencies if evacuation is ordered.
• DON’T: Attempt to walk or drive through flooded roads, venture near swelling water bodies, touch downed power lines, or spread unverified rumors.
