Jammu and Kashmir weather update forecasts rain and high winds with flash flood warning

SRINAGAR, June 12, 2026 – The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a weather forecast and advisory for Jammu and Kashmir predicting partly to generally cloudy conditions across the region.

On June 12, residents can expect one or two spells of light to moderate rain or brief intense showers in many places, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, gusting up to 60 kilometers per hour in a few areas.

From June 13 to June 17, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy with light rain, brief intense showers, thunder, lightning, and gusty winds expected at scattered places.

A similar pattern will continue on June 18 and June 19, bringing generally cloudy skies with one or two spells of light rain and brief intense showers alongside thunder, lightning, and gusty winds at scattered locations.In light of these conditions, the weather office has issued a safety advisory warning of the possibility of thunder, lightning, hailstorms, and strong gusty winds with brief intense showers at isolated places on June 12.

There is a distinct possibility that these brief intense showers could generate flash floods and mudslides in isolated parts of both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions.

Authorities have advised the public to stay away from loose structures, electric poles, wires, and old trees for their safety. Additionally, all boating activities and Shikara riding should be suspended during this period to prevent accidents on the water.
