NEW DELHI, June 12, 2026 – The Ministry of External Affairs summoned U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Jason Meeks to lodge a strong protest regarding continuing attacks by U.S. naval forces on commercial vessels carrying Indian mariners in the Gulf of Oman, according to the official statement .
The ministry stated that these military actions have already resulted in the tragic and avoidable loss of three Indian lives. During the meeting, Indian officials formally registered their deep concerns over the repeated use of lethal and deadly force against civilian shipping infrastructure in the region.
The government emphasized that such aggressive actions are entirely unacceptable and directly undermine the safety, security, and stability of international maritime commerce in a highly sensitive region during a difficult time.
Meeks was requested to immediately convey India’s strong objections to the authorities in Washington.
Furthermore, New Delhi demanded that U.S. forces operating across the region take all necessary measures to prevent any further casualties and ensure the absolute protection of civilian life at sea.
