Jammu and Kashmir Police Arrest Seven Suspects in Major Anti Drug Operations
SRINAGAR, April 14, 2026 :- The Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified their crackdown on narcotics trafficking as part of the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals across Awantipora, Budgam, and Pulwama.
During these targeted operations, law enforcement teams intercepted several vehicles and conducted residential searches, leading to the recovery of a substantial quantity of illegal substances. In Awantipora, officers stopped a vehicle during a routine check and discovered approximately 50 grams of a substance resembling charas.
Three residents of Batmaloo and Tengpora, identified as Asim Ahmad Bhat, Uzan Farooq Khan, and Farhan Rashid Shigar, were taken into custody and their vehicle was seized as part of the investigation.
The enforcement drive continued in Budgam, where a police team from the Magam station intercepted a suspicious auto on the Watmagam-Magam Road. Although the driver and his passenger attempted to flee the scene, they were quickly apprehended by alert officers.
The individuals, Firdous Ahmad Ganie and Naseer Ahmad Mir, were found to be in possession of over two kilograms of crushed cannabis. Meanwhile, in Pulwama, a search operation conducted at a residence in Newa led to the discovery of both powdered and solid forms of suspected charas.
Two suspects, Younis Ahmad Sheikh and a woman from the same locality, were arrested on the spot in the presence of a local magistrate.All seven suspects are currently being held at their respective police stations while formal cases are registered under the relevant sections of the law.
Investigators are now focused on tracing the broader supply chains and networks linked to these seizures to prevent further distribution.
The police department has reiterated its dedication to creating a drug-free society and continues to encourage citizens to come forward with any information regarding local trafficking.
These arrests highlight a sustained effort by regional authorities to dismantle the infrastructure of the drug trade and protect the community from the growing threat of substance abuse.
