Jammu And Kashmir Government Approves Major Power Infrastructure Upgrades For Srinagar

SRINAGAR, May 15, 2026 — The Council of Ministers, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has approved a series of significant projects aimed at modernizing the power infrastructure in Srinagar and its surrounding regions.

A primary component of this initiative is the augmentation of the Grid Sub Station at Zainakote, which will see its capacity increased from 450 MVA to 780 MVA. This specific upgrade is estimated to cost approximately ₹67.66 crore and is designed to meet the growing energy demands of the valley.

In addition to the substation expansion, the government has cleared the upgradation of two vital transmission lines. The 132 KV Pampore-Rawalpora and Rawalpora-Bemina lines will be modernized at an estimated investment of ₹25.47 crore.

These combined efforts are intended to strengthen the regional transmission network, significantly minimize power outages, and ensure a more stable and efficient electricity supply for local consumers, particularly during peak usage periods.
