DIG Udhampur Reviews Security Preparedness: Orders Intensified Vigilance and Property Attachments
UDHAMPUR, May 2: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Shiv Kumar Sharma, chaired an extensive operations-cum-security review meeting at Police Station Majalta today, signaling a heightened security posture across the region. During his visit, which included inspections of HQ 84 Brigade Rampur, Majalta, and Police Post Khoon, the DIG meticulously assessed operational readiness and directed a multipronged strategy to fortify the security grid. A key directive issued during the session was the mandate for firm legal action against those involved in UAPA and NDPS cases, including the initiation of property attachment proceedings against Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and anti-national elements wherever legally warranted.
To ensure proactive defense, the DIG emphasized the necessity of strengthening intelligence networks through sustained community engagement and effective asset cultivation. Security forces were instructed to intensify Long Range Patrols (LRPs), Short Range Patrols (SRPs), and Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) to maintain a dominant presence. Furthermore, DIG Sharma ordered the immediate activation of Village Defence Guards (VDGs), alongside intensified naka checking and enhanced night domination measures, particularly in vulnerable areas. He noted that a zero-tolerance policy remains in effect for drug peddlers and bovine smugglers, highlighting their frequent nexus with broader unlawful and anti-national activities.
The security review also prioritized grassroots-level cooperation, with the DIG underscoring the importance of regular dialogue between police and village heads to facilitate the flow of actionable intelligence. Following the formal briefing, the DIG held a public interaction at Battal Morh, where he encouraged local residents to act as partners in maintaining regional peace. Assuring the public of prompt grievance redressal, he reiterated that the police department is fully committed to a robust community-police partnership aimed at ensuring a safe and secure environment for all citizens.
