Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Launches Spring Festival To Mark New Era Of Growth In Anantnag

BIJBEHARA, APRIL 14: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today inaugurated the Jashn-e-Amad-e-Bahar spring festival at Jablipora, Anantnag, framing the arrival of spring as a symbol of a fresh start for the governance and development of Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a large public gathering on the occasion of Baisakhi, the Chief Minister noted that his administration has established a clear path forward, moving beyond mere effort toward tangible results.

He highlighted several recent policy landmarks, such as the provision of free cooking gas cylinders for underprivileged families and the implementation of the Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which aims to provide free electricity to households.

In a move to transform the educational landscape, the Chief Minister emphasized a new policy allowing private universities to establish campuses within the Union Territory. He explained that this initiative is designed to ensure that local students no longer have to travel to other states for quality higher education, thereby reducing financial burdens and logistical hurdles for families.

The government plans to actively invite top-tier institutions to set up facilities in even the most remote areas of Kashmir. By bringing these educational opportunities directly to the doorsteps of the youth, the administration hopes to foster a more skilled and competitive local workforce.

Turning his focus to the rural economy, the Chief Minister outlined a comprehensive vision for South Kashmir, leveraging its fertile land for both agriculture and tourism. He spoke about the massive potential for agro-tourism, where visitors can experience the region’s famous lavender blooms and mustard fields, creating new income streams for local communities.

Additionally, he announced a push for a “White Revolution” through modern dairy farming initiatives, including the establishment of milk processing units and better veterinary support.

By focusing on high-density plantations and improved cold storage, the government aims to build a self-reliant agricultural sector that serves as the backbone of the region’s economic future.
