Anantnag Police Launch Major Anti Drug Operation Arrest Four Suspects and Destroy Illicit Crops

ANANTNAG, June 4, 2026 — Anantnag Police escalated their crackdown on regional drug networks by registering six separate narcotics cases in a single day, leading to the arrest of four individuals, the recovery of a large haul of charas, and the destruction of illegal poppy fields.

During a routine vehicle checkpoint at Sarnal Bala, a police team intercepted Mohsin Irshad Want, a resident of Anchidora, and recovered over one kilogram of charas powder from his possession. A criminal case was immediately registered at the local police station to initiate a deeper investigation into his supply links.The enforcement drive continued across multiple sectors of the district with several successful interceptions.

In Bijbehara, police officials apprehended Junaid Ahmad Khan at a checkpoint in Pazalpora after discovering eighty-eight grams of charas sticks on his person. Meanwhile, officers stationed along the Pando-Lad Wantrag Road pursued and caught Shakeel Ahmad Khan as he attempted to flee a checkpoint, subsequently seizing two hundred and five grams of charas powder.

In a separate operation near Batbagh, the Utrasoo police unit arrested Umar Qadir Sheikh after discovering fifty-four grams of a similar contraband substance in his possession.Law enforcement teams also targeted the agricultural source of illicit narcotics by destroying illegal poppy cultivation fields in coordination with local administrative officers.

Acting on a tip, Achabal police teams worked alongside an executive magistrate and an agriculture officer to clear an opium poppy crop illegally grown by Gh. Qadir Wagay in his field. A similar joint operation was executed by the Kokernag police at Khokharpora Adhal, where a large patch of unidentified poppy cultivation was razed, and samples were collected for forensic analysis.

District authorities reiterated their commitment to eliminating drug trafficking and urged the public to continue reporting suspicious activities to help maintain a drug-free society.
