Anti Corruption Bureau Files Chargesheet Against Ten Persons in Bridge Construction Fraud Case

SRINAGAR, Aug 10 — The Anti-Corruption Bureau of Jammu and Kashmir has submitted a charge-sheet before the Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court in Baramulla against 10 individuals, including nine public servants and one private contractor, over the alleged embezzlement of government store material and fraudulent release of security deposits.

The case stems from an investigation into the construction of a steel bridge at Lastiyal-Kalaroose in Kupwara, where project work awarded in 2010 was partially executed and subsequently abandoned, leaving government-supplied cement and steel unaccounted for alongside improper financial releases that caused a loss of over 7.12 lakh rupees to the state exchequer.

Among those named in the charge-sheet are retired Executive Engineers Mohd Sultan Sheikh and Ajit Singh Chopra, alongside former Assistant Executive Engineers, Junior Engineers, finance staff, and contractor Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Lone.

Following the grant of prosecution sanction, all 10 accused were presented before the court and granted bail upon submitting the required bonds, with the court setting November 25, 2026, as the next date of hearing.
