National Conference Leader Mustafa Kamal Passes Away in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, July 14, 2026: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced the passing of his uncle, senior National Conference leader Mustafa Kamal, on Tuesday.

The veteran politician breathed his last at Paras Hospital in Srinagar following a prolonged illness. He had been unwell for several months, and his condition deteriorated significantly over the past four days before he passed away in the evening.

Omar Abdullah shared the news in an emotional post on social media, noting that his uncle put up a brave fight against his illness. The chief minister expressed gratitude to the doctors and medical staff who treated his uncle during his stay at the hospital.

Mustafa Kamal was a prominent figure in the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. He was the son of National Conference founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and the younger brother of party president Farooq Abdullah.

During his long political career, he served as a minister in successive cabinets and represented the Gulmarg assembly constituency. His passing has drawn widespread condolences from political leaders and citizens across the region.
