Jammu and Kashmir government suspends GMC Anantnag cardiology professor

SRINAGAR, June 20, 2026 — The Jammu and Kashmir government has placed Syed Maqbool Ahmad Shah, an associate professor of cardiology deputed to the Government Medical College in Anantnag, under immediate suspension pending an inquiry into his conduct.

According to the official government order number 504-JK (HME) of 2026 issued by the Health and Medical Education Department, the disciplinary action was executed under Rule 31 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services Classification, Control and Appeal Rules of 1956. During the period of his suspension, the associate professor will remain attached to the office of the Government Medical College in Jammu.

The formal order, was issued by order of the government and signed by Commissioner Secretary M. Raju.
