Jammu Divisional Commissioner launches training programme to boost textile and handloom sector
JAMMU, June 12, 2026 – Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar has inaugurated a two-day Liaison Officers Training cum Refreshers Programme focusing on the Market for Textile and Clothing National Household Survey at the Convention Centre Jammu.
Organized by the Textiles Committee under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, the event aims to bring together liaison officers from the northern region to improve data collection techniques, enhance data quality, and incorporate new fibers, products, and sustainability practices to better serve survey users.
The inaugural session was attended by prominent figures including Textiles Committee Director of Market Research Tapan Kumar Rout, Director of Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu Mohammad Nazir Sheikh, and NGO Support Chairperson Navneet Kour, along with local entrepreneurs and liaison officers.
Speaking at the event, Ramesh Kumar highlighted that the Jammu region possesses significant potential for handloom and local textiles. He emphasized that the data collected by the liaison officers will be vital for future policy formulation and for boosting the overall handloom and textile sector across Jammu and Kashmir.
The Textiles Committee actively maps textile consumption in the household sector through this national survey, which covers 13,540 households across 364 centers, including 111 urban and 253 rural locations.The data collection process relies on a structured questionnaire, scientific tools, and personal interviews conducted by selected liaison officers from the sample centers or nearby areas.
These officers gather detailed consumption data using customized tools known as Demographic Particular Returns and Monthly Purchase Returns. The final information is cross-checked with secondary data sources, and the comprehensive findings are subsequently published in an annual report titled Market for Textiles and Clothing – National Household Survey.
