Himanta Biswa Sarma to take oath as Assam Chief Minister on May 12

DISPUR | 10 May 2026The Governor of Assam has officially appointed Himanta Biswa Sarma as the Chief Minister of Assam, exercising the powers vested under Clause 1 of Article 164 of the Constitution of India.

The appointment follows the Chief Minister staking his claim to form the next government earlier today. A formal notification issued by the Parliamentary Affairs Department confirmed that the Governor has invited him to lead the new administration following the recent constitutional processes.

The swearing-in ceremony for the Chief Minister-designate is scheduled to take place at 11:40 AM on 12 May 2026. The high-profile event will be held at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, Guwahati.

State officials and various administrative departments have been notified to ensure all necessary arrangements are in place for the oath-taking ceremony, which marks the commencement of the new government’s tenure.

According to the official order signed by Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, the notification has been circulated to senior secretaries, the Accountant General, and the Assam Legislative Assembly for immediate action.

The ceremony is expected to draw significant attendance from various government boards, including the APSC and APDCL, as the state prepares for the transition.

The Governor’s office has directed all administrative wings to coordinate the logistics for the event at the Khanapara venue to ensure a seamless constitutional transition.
