Security Forces Uncover Major Terror Cache in Kotnala Joint Operation

KUPWARA, AUGUST 31, 2025: In a significant blow to terrorist activities in the region, a joint team of security forces uncovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition during a meticulously planned search operation in the dense, forested area of Kotnala, within the Awra Bowl of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

The operation, codenamed ‘Op Kotnala’, was conducted on August 30th and 31st based on specific intelligence inputs.The operation saw participation from the 41st Rashtriya Rifles (Maratha LI), a company from the 160 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army), and a section of the Border Security Force (BSF) from Kupwara. During a deliberate and thorough search of the identified area, troops successfully located and busted a well-concealed terrorist hideout.

The recovery from the hideout is substantial and includes a variety of war-like stores (WLS) of both Pakistani and Chinese origin. The seized items consist of one Chinese-made pistol, four Pakistani-origin Under Barrel Grenade Launchers (UBGL), and four Chinese hand grenades. Furthermore, the forces recovered a sniper rifle magazine with 26 rounds, one AK-47 magazine with 144 live rounds, a bag, and two Chinese reading leaflets.

This successful operation marks a major achievement for the security forces, effectively disrupting the logistics and operational plans of terrorist elements attempting to destabilize the region. The seizure of such a sizeable arsenal has preempted potential attacks and has significantly enhanced the security scenario in the area. The search operation in the general area is reported to be still in progress.
