Indian Army’s Assam Rifles and Manipur Police Recover Large Cache of Weapons and Explosives

IMPHAL, May 4 — Security forces achieved significant success in curbing insurgent activities across Manipur during a series of coordinated operations conducted between April 26 and May 2, 2026.

In a joint effort, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police launched intelligence-based strikes that resulted in the recovery of a substantial quantity of arms, ammunition, and explosives.

The week-long crackdown was designed to dismantle local insurgent networks and restore stability to the region.The recovery included a diverse array of weaponry, such as four 9mm pistols, one additional pistol, two automatic weapons, and eight single-bore rifles.

Security personnel also seized four improvised mortars, known as Pompis, along with three grenades, 48 rounds of live ammunition, and five radio sets used for communication.

During the operations, teams discovered 18 improvised explosive devices which were immediately destroyed on-site by bomb disposal squads to prevent any risk to the public.

In addition to the hardware seizures, security forces apprehended a female cadre of the PREPAK (PRO) group in the Kakching district.

Investigations revealed that the individual had previously undergone militant training in Myanmar and was actively operating within the local area.

This arrest and the extensive recovery of war-like stores represent a major blow to the logistical capabilities of active insurgent groups in the state.
