Omar Abdullah receives 3566 crore PMGSY package from Shivraj Singh Chouhan

SRINAGAR, April 28, 2026Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today participated in the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-IV, Batch-II at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre, signaling a major upgrade for rural infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.

During the event, Union Minister for Rural Development, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan officially handed over a sanction letter for a package worth 3,566 crore.

This substantial investment is set to connect 363 habitations through 330 new roads spanning approximately 1,600 kilometers, which the Chief Minister noted would serve as a lifeline for residents by improving access to healthcare, education, and employment.

Addressing a large gathering, Abdullah expressed his gratitude to the Union Minister and assured that the Jammu and Kashmir administration is committed to the swift and high-quality execution of these projects. He emphasized that the government’s focus remains on rural development, with a goal to connect every remaining village and habitation in the region.

Beyond infrastructure, the Chief Minister highlighted welfare measures for farmers, including crop insurance, and underscored the importance of the National Rural Livelihood Mission in empowering women. He shared an optimistic vision for Self Help Groups, hoping to see members progress from “Lakhpati Didis” to “Crorepati Didis” through expanded economic support.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that his visit carried a message of peace and development, choosing Srinagar specifically to release the first sanction letter of this national package. He revealed that his ministry has released a total of 7,790 crore in funds to the region within a single year.

Additionally, the Union Minister released a national mother sanction of 4,568 crore under the National Rural Livelihood Mission, including 40.90 crore specifically for Jammu and Kashmir.

He also announced the upcoming launch of a Clean Plant Programme to provide disease-free nursery plants to local farmers and encouraged the adoption of integrated multi-crop farming.

The high-profile event saw attendance from Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Rural Development Minister Javaid Ahmad Dar, and several Members of Parliament and the Legislative Assembly. Senior officials including Union Secretary Rohit Kansal and various department heads were also present to witness the formalization of these initiatives.

The proceedings concluded with a shared resolve to align regional growth with the national vision of a developed India, ensuring that the benefits of flagship schemes reach every genuine beneficiary on the ground.
