JK ACB files charge sheet against former PWD computer operator in bribery case
JAMMU, April 28, 2026 — The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau has formally presented a charge sheet against Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh, a former computer operator in the PWD R&B Circle Ganderbal, in connection with a bribery case.
The legal documents were submitted before the Additional Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court in Srinagar under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The case dates back to March 2022, when a FIR was registered following a written complaint alleging that the official had demanded a bribe for the issuance of a D-Class contractor card.
The investigation revealed that a successful trap was organized by the ACB, during which the accused was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹4,000 from the complainant.
Authorities recovered the bribe money on-site, and subsequent chemical tests confirmed the presence of phenolphthalein on the hands of the accused, providing scientific evidence of the transaction.
The bureau established that Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohammad Shafi Sheikh and resident of Bamloora Ganderbal, had abused his official position for personal gain.
Following the completion of all necessary investigative and departmental formalities, the ACB moved the case forward for judicial determination. The presentation of the charge sheet marks a significant step in the legal process against the public servant.
The court has reviewed the initial filings and has scheduled the next hearing for June 10, 2026, to continue the proceedings.
