Jammu and Kashmir Police destroy illegal poppy cultivation in Anantnag district
Anantnag, April 25, 2026The Jammu and Kashmir Police continued their intensive drive against narcotic substances by destroying illegal poppy cultivation across various parts of Anantnag district.
During the coordinated operations, police teams cleared poppy crops spread over approximately 10 marlas of land. In the Dooru area, the destruction was carried out in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and officials from the Agriculture Department, leading to the registration of a formal case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Similar enforcement actions were taken in other parts of the district to curb the illegal trade. The Larnoo Police registered a case after identifying and destroying poppy crops within their jurisdiction, while the Pahalgam Police filed three separate FIRs following raids conducted in coordination with the Revenue and Agriculture Departments.
Authorities emphasized their commitment to eradicating drug cultivation and have urged the public to provide information regarding the sale or cultivation of narcotics, promising that the identity of informants will remain strictly confidential.
