LG Leads Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Council Meeting to Transform Academic Landscape

JAMMU, APRIL 24: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting of the Jammu Kashmir Higher Education Council today at Lok Bhavan to strategize the holistic transformation of the union territory’s education sector.

The session was attended by a broad assembly of academic leaders and government officials, including Vice Chairman Dinesh Singh, Additional Chief Secretary Shailendra Kumar, and several Vice Chancellors from universities across the region, including Umesh Rai, Nilofer Khan, and Shakil Ahmad Romshoo.

Key discussions centered on the implementation of the Design Your Degree program, the integration of Artificial Intelligence and IT into the curriculum, and fostering entrepreneurship to develop human capital for Viksit Bharat.

During the proceedings, the Lieutenant Governor called for the effective on-ground execution of innovative programs and urged seamless synergy between central and union territory institutions to establish benchmarks aligned with international standards.

Vice Chairman Dinesh Singh emphasized that higher education must focus on realizing human potential and enhancing student productivity for societal service. The council further deliberated on creating a collaborative mechanism for joint degree programs, launching a technology-based platform for institutional sharing, and increasing the Gross Enrolment Ratio.

Additional initiatives discussed included the Riverine College, AI competitions, and budget allocations for the 2025-27 period to ensure the continued progress of higher education under the National Education Policy 2020.
