Udhampur DC Minga Sherpa Reviews Readiness for Civil Defence Air Raid Mock Drill

UDHAMPUR, APRIL 22: Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa convened a high-level meeting today to finalize arrangements for a comprehensive Civil Defence air raid mock drill scheduled for April 24, 2026, at 8 pm.

This exercise is designed to rigorously test the district’s emergency response systems and overall preparedness for potential aerial threats. The simulation will begin with the activation of the Air Raid Early Warning System, using sirens to alert the public, followed by the implementation of blackout measures to practice visibility reduction and community safety protocols.

A primary focus of the drill involves evaluating evacuation procedures and the mobilization of emergency transport. Officials will assess the district’s ability to move civilians to designated shelters using a coordinated fleet of vehicles and ambulances.

The exercise also encompasses medical response strategies, including the identification of casualty evacuation routes and the deployment of search and rescue teams.

By testing these variables, the administration aims to identify any gaps in the swift treatment of casualties and the coordination of specialized rescue units like the SDRF and NDRF.

The mock drill will feature significant community involvement, with participation from 21 wards within the Municipal Council. Volunteers from these wards have been trained as first responders to ensure that disaster management efforts are localized and effective.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the importance of clear information dissemination, ensuring residents are familiar with emergency contact numbers.

Attended by senior representatives from the Air Force, police, and various engineering and health departments, the session emphasized that seamless inter-agency cooperation is essential for the safety and well-being of the residents of Udhampur.
