Assam Rifles Seizes Illegal Areca Nuts Worth Over 54 Lakh Near Indo-Myanmar Border
CHAMPHAI, April 17, 2026:- In a successful joint operation aimed at curbing cross-border smuggling, the Assam Rifles and the Custom Preventive Force of Champhai intercepted a significant shipment of contraband in Mizoram.
The teams seized 98 bags of areca nuts, weighing a total of 7,840 kg, from the Ruantlang area within the Champhai District. The market value of the confiscated goods is estimated to be approximately 54.88 lakh rupees.
This recovery highlights the persistent vigilance maintained by security forces along the sensitive Indo-Myanmar border to disrupt illegal trade routes.
The operation underscores the ongoing commitment of the Assam Rifles to work in close coordination with civil agencies to maintain regional security and economic stability.
By targeting the flow of unauthorized agricultural products, the joint forces aim to dismantle the networks that facilitate smuggling activities in the General Area Ruantlang.
