DG Assam Rifles Reviews Operational Security and Empowers IDPs During Landmark Manipur Visit

IMPHAL, April 16, 2026— Underscoring a dual commitment to national security and community resilience, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General of the Assam Rifles, concluded an extensive high-level visit to Manipur yesterday. Throughout the tour, the DG conducted rigorous reviews of operational readiness across critical strategic locations, including Mantripukhri, Keithelmanbi, Pallel, Kakching, and Churachandpur.

These inspections were aimed at ensuring that the “Sentinels of the Northeast” remain prepared to maintain stability and peace in the region. The visit served as a strong signal of the force’s proactive stance in safeguarding the border state while maintaining a robust security grid.Beyond tactical oversight, the Director General prioritized humanitarian and developmental initiatives, particularly for those affected by regional instability. In a significant move toward sustainable livelihood, Lt Gen Lakhera inaugurated new eco-tourism facilities specifically designed for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)** in Khuga.

He further visited the UNAU Skill Development Centre to monitor ongoing vocational training programs, emphasizing the importance of economic empowerment and skill acquisition in the recovery process.

The visit reached its ceremonial peak with the celebration of the 107th Raising Day of the Dalai Lama Battalion, where the DG commended the unit’s century-long legacy of service and its pivotal role in the socio-security fabric of the Northeast.
