Anti-Corruption Court Convicts Former Patwari in 2007 Bribery Case, Awards Imprisonment and Fine
Srinagar, April 13, 2026:- Tasleem Arif, the Special Judge of the Anti-Corruption Court Srinagar, today sentenced a former public servant, Ghulam Qadir Bhat, to one year of imprisonment and a fine of ₹10,000 in a long-standing corruption case.
Bhat, who served as the Patwari Halqa Khushipora Zainkot at the time of the offense, was found guilty of demanding and accepting a ₹3,000 bribe in 2007 to implement a land mutation for a complainant.
The case, originally registered as FIR No. 20/2007 by the then Vigilance Organization Kashmir (now Anti-Corruption Bureau), charged the accused under Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 161 of the RPC.
Following an exhaustive investigation where the ACB proved the allegations through compelling oral and documentary evidence, the court upheld the charges, with Senior Prosecuting Officer Wajahat Jameel leading the arguments for the prosecution.
The judgment reinforces the judiciary’s commitment to penalizing unethical conduct and ensuring accountability within public services.
